Kazakhstan : Return of Erik
Kazakhstan won't leave me alone. And I won't leave her alone. This was clear to-day, when I received a message from the Danish Foreign Ministry that ODIHR has approved me as an international observer for the presidential elections that are due on December 4, 2005.

The Kazakhstani President Nursultan Nazarbaev is running for re-election. He has been in chief of the country ever since the independence in autumn 1991, when he as the general secretary of the Kazakhstani Communist Party joined Boris Yeltsin in dissolving the Soviet Union. He was later one of the leading forces in the formation of the Community of Independent States — CIS.
I shall be observing the presidential elections on a long-term basis from October 21 till December 9, 2005. It is so far no information about where the ODIHR Elections Observation Mission will deploy me.
